He knows

I was getting A dressed before her nap (she was in nothing but a diaper and sneakers of her choosing since finishing breakfast hours before) and she wouldn't stop squirming. If she had held still (enough) for just a second I could help navigate her to push both arms into the sleeves and we would be done. However, she insistently pushed her arms in other directions, twisting the shirt around, getting an arm stuck from the head hole, and was getting more frustrated by the second. I finally had to pull her fully onto my lap and guide each arm directly to the hole, which still took longer than necessary as she continued to squirm, and wrench her body and appendages around. Finally, both arms were in and it was done. 2 minutes later than necessary.

I couldn't help but think what the Lord must think when we insist we are doing something the right way when in reality it is exactly the opposite. We make things so much harder for ourselves, when we could just try to listen—even for a second—and obey what He says. He is trying to guide, and often we are wiggling and squirming and resisting so much that there is no way for Him to do help without a lot of effort, or just to step back and let us attempt to figure it out ourselves.

He knows better than any of us. How much simpler, efficient and beautifully basic would our life be if we just did what He asked, when He asked, how He asked. It wouldn't be easier, but simpler.
